Opportunities
Students can choose to participate in the Illinois Federation of Music Clubs (IFMC), Morning Etude's annual Festival. Students memorize and perform two pieces for judges, receiving adjudication & earning points toward Gold Cup achievement awards.
The American College of Music, National Piano Guild held each May, is a required studio activity. Students memorize anywhere from 2 -10 pieces and musicianship skills to be memorized and performed for an objective & degreed judge from outside the Springfield area.
For a well-rounded understanding of music theory and styles, students may participate in the Decatur Area Music Teachers Association (DAMTA), Illinois State Music Teachers Association AIM - Achievement in Music, an affiliate of MTNA. Exams are held in nearby Decatur, Illinois.
For Intermediate (11-14 yrs old) and Advanced (15-18 yrs old) students:
IFMC sponsors a Scholarship Audion and the Jean Vitale Scholarship Audition held each March. Students compete to win scholarship assistance to attend the summer music camp program of their choice.
DAMTA sponsors a Scholarship Audition held in April. Students compet to win scholarship assistance to attend the summer music camp program of their choice.
Springfield's very own Women's Symphony Guild also holds a Scholarship Audition annually in April. Students can compete to win either an intermediate or senior scholarship to attend the summer music camp of their choice.
At the end of the piano year in May, students participate in an Annual Spring Recital and Awards Ceremony, highlighting literature learned throughout the year as well as musical achievements and awards.
Required Performances
Group Class - Each student will prepare one new guild piece each month to be performed.
Guild - Each student will prepare a program of 2-10 pieces for May adjudication.
Annual Spring Recital - Each student will prepare at least one piece to be performed by memory.
